Questions/ Answers from Catherine:
What IMD Element does your YL talk the most about?
My YL talks most about Goal Setting and Attainment. She is really working on naming what she wants to work toward, breaking it into smaller steps, and then checking in on her progress. Having clear goals helps her stay motivated, and reaching them—even the small ones—builds her confidence and independence. Which interestingly enough, goes hand in hand with the One-Pager tool.
Why would you recommend the Summit to Youth and Families?
I recommend the Youth & Family Summit because it gives youth a safe, structured space to meet others and practice self-determination skills like communication, problem solving, and goal setting alongside peers who “get it.” Families gain practical tools and resources, but they also gain community, which is just as valuable when you’re navigating this unique and intricate world. The Summit is designed so youth and families can learn separately and together, building confidence on both sides. It’s a rare opportunity to step away from the day-to-day grind and focus on strengths, future planning, and what is truly possible for our kids and walk away with a sense of belonging and empowerment.
